The Montessori Philosophy of Education
At Mother of Hope Hybrid Academy (MOHHA), our Montessori program for ages 3-6 (Pre-K3 through Kindergarten) provides a rich, hands-on learning environment that nurtures the whole child—physically, socially, emotionally, and intellectually. Rooted in the work of Dr. Maria Montessori, this method has been embraced worldwide for over a century, offering children the freedom to explore, discover, and develop at their own pace within a carefully prepared environment.
Montessori classrooms are designed to foster independence, concentration, and a deep love of learning. Beautifully arranged, purposeful materials engage children in self-directed exploration, while teachers provide gentle guidance and individualized lessons. The Montessori approach values the dignity of the child, emphasizing respect, order, and meaningful work.
By engaging in hands-on, multi-sensory learning experiences, students develop critical thinking skills, practical life abilities, and a strong sense of responsibility. This holistic, time-tested method lays a strong foundation for future academic success while preserving the joy and wonder of childhood.

Meet Our Montessori Director

MOHHA is thrilled to welcome Michelle Cilmi as our Montessori Director. A passionate educator and dedicated homeschooling mother of three, Mrs. Cilmi brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to our Montessori program.
After earning her degree from Kutztown University, where she met her husband of 22 years, she discovered her passion for the Montessori philosophy. Realizing that the traditional school system wasn’t the right fit for her, she pursued Montessori training and soon after opened her own Montessori school—just in time for her daughters to attend. While she loved every moment in the classroom, she felt called to homeschool her own children, a journey that has brought great joy and fulfillment. Now, as her homeschooling chapter nears its final years, she is eager to return to the classroom and share her love for Montessori education with the Mother of Hope Hybrid Academy community.
The Montessori Classroom Experience
Each day in our Montessori classroom follows a natural rhythm, providing structure while allowing children the freedom to make choices and engage deeply with their work.
Upon arrival, children greet their teacher with a handshake before settling into the classroom. They are free to explore the environment, choosing an activity that sparks their interest. Some may begin right away, while others take time to observe and reflect. The morning work period includes hands-on learning in Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Math, and Cultural Studies (which includes Art, Geography, and Botany).
Children receive individual and small-group lessons and are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning space by preparing and cleaning up their activities. A rotating parent-provided snack is available at any time, reinforcing independence and decision-making.
The day also includes circle time, where children sing, share stories, and engage in group lessons. Outdoor play is an essential part of our daily rhythm, allowing children to explore nature and develop motor skills in fresh air and open space.
After lunch, half-day students are dismissed, while full-day students enjoy a quiet rest period followed by an afternoon work session. The day concludes with additional outdoor play before dismissal.
This thoughtful balance of work, play, and rest fosters confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning—hallmarks of the Montessori philosophy and the foundation of our early childhood program at Mother of Hope Hybrid Academy.
