The Board of Directors

The Board of Directors at Mother of Hope Hybrid Academy is comprised of a passionate group of professionals dedicated to establishing a flourishing Catholic educational community infused with the richness of a classical curriculum. Their varied expertise in areas such as law, education, business, ministry, and community outreach is invaluable to the mission of the Academy, helping to provide faithful guidance, thoughtful stewardship, and a strong foundation for the Academy’s continued growth and long-term success.

Founder & President of the Board of Directors

Thea Aclo

As the Founder, Thea brings a passion for Catholic education, family life, and faith formation to the mission of the school. She earned her degree in Catechetics and Theology from Franciscan University and has served in a variety of educational and ministry roles throughout her career. Her experience includes teaching at Catholic middle and high schools, as well as serving as Director of Youth, Young Adult, and Family Ministry for the Diocese of Allentown from 2017-2019. In that role, she served as a resource for parish ministers throughout the diocese, planned formation and community events, oversaw scouting programs and CYO sports, and supported the spiritual and community life of families across the diocese.

After stepping away from professional ministry to stay home with her children, a new vision began to take shape. As a mother of young toddlers, she began researching and implementing Montessori principles within her home.  She fell in love with the Montessori educational philosophy, but found that there were no Catholic Montessori schools in the area.  Additionally, most Montessori programs were full-time and very expensive, making them inaccessible to families with multiple children and a stay-at-home parent.   When her oldest child reached kindergarten age, she could not imagine sending him away from home at such a young age to be at a desk for forty hours each week. After looking into dozens of schools around the area, she could not find what she was looking for. Thea envisioned a school where children could preserve the joy and wonder of childhood, learn in an environment rich with Montessori and Classical principles, spend meaningful time at home with the parents who know them best, enjoy the freedom to play outdoors every day, and grow within a vibrant Catholic community.

In talking to friends and local parents, she quickly recognized that many other parents felt the same way.  They either struggled with feeling dissatisfied with the available schooling options, or chose to homeschool and struggled with isolation, overwhelm, and the lack of organized community. After polling local families about their interest in a Catholic hybrid academy, the response was overwhelming. Encouraged by that enthusiasm and shared vision, the school moved from dream to reality and began blazing a new path forward!  In its inaugural school year of 2025-2026, Mother of Hope opened its doors to 38 students, and is set to double enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year.

Treasurer

Maribeth Morgan

Maribeth is a wife and mother of four children.  While her children are too old to attend Mother of Hope, she has supported the mission of MOHHA from day one.  As a parent, she has experienced nearly every type of schooling situation, and sees the great need for Catholic hybrid homeschooling. Maribeth works as an accountant and bookkeeper for a number of family businesses, including the popular Wanderlust Beer Garden.  Her business and accounting experience, as well as her shared vision of an academy that supports Catholic homeschooling families, has been invaluable in taking Mother of Hope from vision to reality.  She attends Our Lady of Mercy Parish in Easton with her family.

Board Member

Alexandra Burchfiel

Alexandra brings extensive experience in classical education, leadership, and organizational development. She began her work in classical education as a founding teacher at both Great Hearts Academy and Founders Classical Academy, helping establish and shape school culture from the earliest stages. She later served as an administrator and Latin teacher at the St. André Bessette Schola, a Catholic classical hybrid academy similar in model to Mother of Hope. Throughout her career, she has been deeply committed to cultivating academic excellence and forming students through the rich traditions of classical education.

Beyond the classroom, Alexandra has held leadership and strategic roles across education and public policy organizations. Her professional experience includes work with the Manhattan Institute, as well as serving as Chief of Staff and later Director of Strategic Initiatives for the Brilla Schools Initiative, where she focused on organizational growth and long-term strategy. She is also the mother of two children and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Classical Education from the University of Dallas, continuing her commitment to lifelong learning and the advancement of classical education.  She attends St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Charlottesville, VA.

Chaplain

Fr. Brendon Laroche

Fr. Laroche was appointed by Bishop Schlert to serve as the chaplain to Mother of Hope.  He sits on the board in an ex-officio capacity in order to provide spiritual guidance and ensure fidelity to the Magisterium.  Fr. Laroche is the Pastor of St. Ursula’s in Fountain Hill, where Mother of Hope is located.

What Our Community Says

“This has been the best school year, I’m not even joking you, in our lives.  Our son is turning 20 soon, so we have been involved in schools for the past 17 years as parents. We have been all over the place. The school you have built is such a blessing and gift from God.  Usually my daughter is counting the hours until the end of the school year… today she had tears in her eyes when she said only three more days.”

MaryAnn, Parent

“So thankful to Mother of Hope Hybrid Academy and all the work that Thea has done to grow our school! Homeschooling has been on my heart for many years, but deep inside I knew I couldn’t have done it without an academic and Catholic program! MOHHA was my answered prayer last year and a perfect balance to homeschooling. Our experience was fantastic, the community is warm and welcoming, my kids made great friendships, and the classical education with a touch of Charlotte Mason was challenging, yet accessible for my 3rd and 1st grader. I feel so blessed to be a part of this community!”

Cristina, Parent

“Thank you for all you’ve done this year to start MOHHA! What a TREMENDOUS blessing and gift it has been for our family. Truly, providential.”

Julia, Parent

“Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have all of the guidance and support as we start our homeschooling journey!”
